Mia Timpano is a Graduate at Clayton Utz, one of Australia’s leading commercial law firms. She is passionate about the law, analytical and strategic thinking, and helping to solve complex and important problems for Australia’s private and public sectors.
Mia obtained her Bachelor of Laws at Deakin University and won the 2025 Supreme Court Prize, conferred by the Supreme Court of Victoria to the Dux of each Law School in the State. She also won the award for Best Student in Equity & Trusts, represented Deakin as an Oralist in the 2024 Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis East, Hong Kong), and was a Quarter-Finalist in the 2023 Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot.
Before coming to the law, Mia was a writer and editor. She held leadership roles at best-selling fashion publication Frankie Magazine, independent radio station Triple R FM, and Swinburne University of Technology, a top 300 university globally. She has written extensively about music, art and fashion, having represented the Australian press at New York Fashion Week, and is a former music radio presenter.
Leadership
Mia has led teams of creative professionals and volunteers to deliver complex projects, from building and managing a team of domestic and international content creators at Frankie Magazine, to standing up marketing campaigns that increased Triple R FM’s paying subscribers by +50% in three years. At Swinburne, she led marketing campaigns and communications for the university’s portfolio of Innovation & Enterprise products and services.
Writing
Mia is dedicated to producing legal research that addresses complex, evolving challenges in both international and domestic law. Mia’s previous career as a writer and editor for media spanned two decades. Her clients included The Guardian, Smith Journal, Townsville Art Gallery, and many more. As a journalist, she predominantly interviewed musicians and artists, such as Debbie Harry, Ben Folds and Mavis Staples.
Strategy
Committed to excellence in strategic thinking and uncovering growth opportunities, Mia devised and implemented an approach to digital content at Triple R FM that helped to double web traffic in under a year. She also launched and produced Frankie Magazine’s first podcast series, creating a new business area for the publisher, and attracting an organic audience of 10,000+ within a month.
Speaking
Mia is a seasoned speaker, having presented live music radio shows on Triple R FM for 15 years. She also provided regular voice talent for the station’s sponsorship announcements. Mia represented Deakin University in international moots, including the Vis East, and is an experienced moot coach. In 2025, she chaired the Young Constructors Panel at the Society of Construction Law Australia’s National Conference.
